Australian Statistics 
  • 16349 new cases of prostate cancer were diagnosed in 2005. It’s the most common form of cancer diagnosed in Australian men after Colorectal. 

  • In 2005, 2949 Australian men died of prostate cancer, it’s the second leading cause of cancer deaths after lung cancer 

  • One in eight Australian men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer 

  • It’s the second leading cause of death after lung cancer

  • Prostate cancer is rare before the age of 45 

  • About 85 per cent of new cases and over 96 per cent of deaths occur in men over the age of 60. After diagnosis, a majority of men survive for 10 years or more. 

  • The rate of prostate cancer will increase as the population ages 



South Australian Statistics
  • In 2006, 1474 South Australian men were diagnosed with prostate cancer. 

  • 263 South Australia men died from prostate cancer in 2006
