Human Research Ethics Committee

Cancer Council South Australia’s (CCSA) Human Research Ethics Committee (HREC) was established in 2002.

Its role is to review the ethical aspects of research projects conducted by Cancer Council SA staff, where a condition of approval is receipt of a report from each investigator annually. In doing so, this provides a high level of governance for Cancer Council SA research.

The Committee is chaired by Dr Michael James, who also is Chair of the Cancer Sub-Committee of the Royal Adelaide Hospital HREC. Other committee members include a lawyer, lay man, lay woman, Minister of Religion, carer, two researchers and an executive officer.

Cancer Council South Australia's HREC is constituted in accordance with  National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Guidelines and reports annually to the NHMRC.
